Nanjing: Coach Jong Song-chon is looking for more of the same from defending champions Korea Republic ahead of Friday’s Group B tie with Thailand at the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship.
The holders scored 13 goals without reply as Korea Republic eased to victory against debutants Iran in the opening round of fixtures on Wednesday (pictured) to lead the group ahead of DPR Korea, who claimed a 5-0 win over Thailand.
And with the chance to book their place in semi-finals with a game to spare against Thailand at Jiangsu Training Base Stadium, the two-time winners will be hoping to continue their good run of form and cement their position at the top of the table ahead of a clash with DPR Korea on Saturday.
“We have prepared for this tournament for a long time. We have a strong squad and are ready for Thailand,” said Jong.
“We will do our best in every match, and against Thailand we will try to play to the best of our ability and aim for victory.”
Thailand put up a strong first half performance before being overpowered by DPR Korea after the restart as Ri Un-sim’s second-half hat-trick sealed the win.
“We watched Korea and learnt something about their game; we know their weak points,” said Thailand coach Nuengrutai Srathongvian.
“I plan to rotate our team so the substitutes can come in and help us put in a better performance.”
