Dungannon Swifts boss Dixie Robinson has admitted that there is no-one more surprised than him to see the Co Tyrone outfit sitting top of the Carling Premiership.
However, that’s not to say he thinks they don’t deserve it.
Many pundits would have predicted Robinson’s men would be involved in a top versus bottom clash, but no one believed they would be the one’s occupying first place.
That fixture arrives tonight when Swifts travel to beleaguered Lisburn Distillery who, under new boss Jimmy Brown, have yet to register a victory.
Brown would do well to take a look at how things are done at Stangmore Park for inspiration, with confidence at New Grosvenor akin to their league position — rock bottom.
The same can’t be said for Dungannon and it is that and a new found spirit in the camp that Robinson feels is the reason behind their 100 per cent start to the campaign.
“I’m like everyone else, I’m a bit taken aback myself,” said Robinson.
“We obviously wanted to pick up as many points as we could but to have accumulated 12 at this stage is superb.
“We know it can be tough round the bottom and for teams down there is could take something like eight or ten games to get that many points so that’s why we are buzzing.
“Everyone has worked very hard and it’s great that people are talking about us again. I am sure that many people felt that we would be struggling but we have showed what we can do.”
He added: “At the end of last season we had a night at the club to sort of celebrate staying up and we got everyone together.
“From then on the team spirit has been brilliant. I want everyone at the club to be involved — it is all down the fact that everyone feels part of it and everyone is working hard for each other.”
Robinson realises that every game is going to be a test for his side now as the expectancy that Swifts will falter becomes greater.
However, those expectancy levels will not have been much higher on Saturday when they shocked fellow high-flyers Coleraine.
“We know that people are waiting for us to drop but I have warned the players about this,” he said.
“They know they have to keep the standards up but while we are realistic and know we can’t keep this up, the boys are playing with a lot of confidence.
“They are all coming into training with a spring in their step, they are all actually enjoying training and when you have that sort of attitude it transfers onto the pitch.”
also momentan ist es einfach das Selbstvertrauen und der Teamgeist der sich total geändert hat, wird aber auch gesagt ,dass man weiß dass man nicht realistisch vorne mit spielen kann und dass sie auch bald wieder spiele verlieren werden.
