1. FC Heidenheim - Eintracht Frankfurt
Heidenheim with a rollercoaster experience in the last month. First they gathered only eight points out of eleven games and some spectators already mentioned that they will be relegated for sure and the Heidenheim fairy tale finally comes to an end (this club is super small and was playing only ten years ago in very amateurish Oberliga!). But Heidenheim turned the corner and gathered then ten points out of four matches.

Typically they lost in 2. Bundesliga against very poor sides more often than against top teams of which they could beat Nürnberg, Union Berlin and win in Sandhausen. Nevertheless their impressive run came to and end two weeks ago when they lost in Fürth and now they played draw in the first match of the second half of the season in Aue. The 1:1 was a late equalizer and was quite lucky in the end. Mentioning the very inconsistency of the performance one thing is for sure: HDH was never really able to stabilize their defense and have conceded the most goals (33!) of all 2. Bundesliga teams. With HDH almost conceding twice per game it is very ambitious of the bookies to give relatively good odds on the overs cause they are also not very well known of being shy in front of the goal.

With 25 scored goals they have a very decent offensive record for being positioned only 14th in the league. No wonder they have a 11-7 positive over 2.5 bilance. Now you can think DFB-Pokal is always special and that's true but I just can't see that HDH is playing as perfectly defensive as they can and then lose very brave with 0:1 - this is not their mentality at all. Do not forget that this round of 16 is still one of the biggest events in club history and remember that their biggest success came also in DFB-Pokal in the quarter finals of 2016 were they suffered a 2:3 defeat against Bundesliga team Hertha BSC. All I can say is that I trust HDH fighting spirit which is always able to create something special. This club wrote history the last ten years and because they have absolutely, absolutely nothing to lose they won't only sit back and wait for their verdict.

Frankfurt has played a very decent first half of the season in Bundesliga. Some said they'd be a relegation candidate before the season, but they just did a good job, integrated so many new players and were potentially able to beat so many teams (including Bayern München), so that I think they want to reward themselves for the good last months they had. Offensively they were able to crack up tougher defenses than HDH is, they scored twice against Schalke, scored twice in Hamburg and in Berlin f.e. So I really think this game won't be boring as HDH has a cup momentum and their legendary coach injects them a fearless mentality and Frankfurt is just in very decent form and relatively consistent. I do not want to bet on the favourite cause DFB-Pokal indeed can be crazy but the worst defense of 2. Bundesliga, with a decent attack though, meets the second best away team of Bundesliga - that really should result in three goals at least.

Mainz - VfB
Did not want to bet it first but I see some interesting points here. 1) Mainz has revenge. They have lost the Bundesliga match in Stuttgart and should be double motivated. 2) Mainz plays at home much stronger than away and has gathered 13 of 17 points at home 3) Following that, Mainz improved lately away were they showed a great character in Leipzig and on the weekend in Bremen (both ended 2:2) --> 4) Mainz looks absolutely intact, the young coach is very straight and pushes them to the limit 5) Mainz plays very decent althought they have still some injured players, their team spirit replaces individual skill 6) Stuttgart has even more injury troubles than Mainz, having no real striker on board at the moment cause Terodde is very doubtful (bruised ribs), therefore defender Kaminski maybe must play as a striker, no joke as strikers Ginczek & Donis are out as well as offensive player Mané 7) --> No wonder VfB has not scored for 360 minutes cause they just lack offensive personal and create not very much 8) The few chances they have they waste terribly 9) The good match against Bayern is a bit misleading cause Bayern played not 100% 10) Away Stuttgart is the worst team in Bundesliga with zero win, one draw and eigth defeats! 11) And furthermore they miss in Pavard a good regular defender 12) In 12 of the last 17 cases Stuttgart got kicked out of the cup in round of last 16 or even earlier. 13) Mainz does traditionally play welll at home against VfB. GL!

Edit:
