What should have been a triumphant firstday in the world group for the Serbian nation has turned into anightmare, with the withdrawal of both Djokovic and his No. 2 JankoTipsarevic. It means Serbia must field the doubles specialist NenadZimonjic against the world No. 8 Mikhail Youzhny, and the 31-year-oldhasn't played a competitive singles match since the last day of Aprillast year.
Djokovic has been suffering from flu-like symptomsall week. The Serbian team had hoped he would recover in time, but theygave up the fight on Friday morning as Djokovic arrived at the LuzhnikiStadium looking pale and tired.
