Betfair Customer Services 09 Sep 18:07
We refer to our previous announcements in relation to the Belgian Grand Prix.
We apologise for the delay in settling this market but we wanted to ensure correct settlement in light of the exceptional circumstances.
The relevant rules for the settlement of the Winner’s Market are contained in:
· the Market Information text which says that this market will be settled on the official FIA result; and
· the second bullet point of paragraph 2.1 of Betfair’s General Rules which says that markets will be settled on the official result regardless of any subsequent disqualification or amendment to the result.
We have now received confirmation directly from the FIA that the initial Race Classification was only provisional and that at no point was Hamilton considered by the FIA to be the official winner of the race. There is and always has been only one official winner and that is Felipe Massa.
We will therefore shortly be settling all markets based on the current FIA Race Classification, with Felipe Massa as the winner and Mark Webber in 8th position. As mentioned above, any subsequent amendment that may be made in the future to the current official FIA result (for example, as a result of a successful appeal by Hamilton) will be disregarded by Betfair.
Finally, we would like to add that we have noted customer feedback about the rules relating to our Formula 1 markets and we aim to review these at the end of the current Formula 1 season.
