    Griechenland 22.1-23.1

    Panionios v Chalkidona

Both teams have the same goal wich is the participation in next year's UEFA Cup competition. Panionios are eager to prove that their team deserves to be in top spots of the table after the cancellation of the match vs Olympiacos on 9 January due to extremely violent incidents in which 14 policemen were hospitalised. Olympiacos and Panionios have had 3 points docked and been heavily fined while both teams will play their next four home games behind closed doors. Since then Panionios have played 2 games, one for the championship @Ergotelis (win 0-3) and one for the Cup @ilisiakos (win 0-1). Looks like the incidents before the game with Olympiakos affected them in a positive way. They have a relatively good team and they deserve to be in top 6. Injuries or suspension are not of major importance.
On the other hand Halkidona are not doing well after the winter break. They won vs Kerkira (3-0 in Extra time) and then drew twice vs Aigaleo (1-1 at home) and Kerkira (0-0 at home). They lost half of their power after the signing of excellent brazilian midfielder Anderson to Panathinaikos. Since then it's very difficult for them to score and they actually play like a mediocre team. Halkidona will be missing their top scorer Zaharopoulos after injury

    Aris Thessaloniki vs Xanthi

Aris is a team with lots of supporters but has been in financial problems the past 3 years or so. However things have changed the last months since 90% of the debth have been erased after a court decision. Nowadays the new owners and a very respectable coach Hatzaras try to build a team from the scratch. The coach said in September that the target of the team for the current year is to avoid relegation and he promised to make Aris a competitive team. In January Aris have signed 5 new players: midfielder Samuel Inogue, midfielder Eugene Fomumbond and attacker Dorge Κouemaha all from Cameroon. All of those players have played for U-21 International team of their country. Furthermore 2 Greek players have also signed for Aris, Nebegleras a very good midfielder and Beniskos another midfielder. The latter is not eligible to play for this match.
Xanthi is performing very well and in my opinion should be within the top 4 teams. They have been playing attractive football during the whole season and are very strong especially at home. This time of year Xanthi is performing better than Aris but Aris should not be underestimated. None knows what the new players will bring. Me neither. However i would go for a home win only with a small stake. I think that Aris fans will help the new signings to adapt to their new environment faster then expected.

    OFI Crete v Apollon Kalamarias
Those two met 2 days ago for the Greek Cup in a game that ended 1-1. The visitors took a draw that didn't deserve. The equalise came a few minutes before the end while OFI had several chances before that to increase the score. I think that this time the visitors will take nothing out of this match. Although they have been trying hard to collect as many points as they can (last Sunday they won vs AEK Athens 2-1) i don't see any quality in their team and they are favorites for relegation
OFI Crete is not something special but they have a way of winning against lower teams especially at home. The draw in Cup is a very good reason to be a lot more concentrated in this match. Machlas (very good striker that played 2 years ago for Ajax) and regular midfielder Dejanov are the injury problems for OFI. It's not decided yet whether they'll play. The same counts for brazilian striker Clayton of Kalamaria. I will go for a home win with a medium stake

    Kerkyra v PAOK

The newcomers Kerkyra will face PAOK in a close game. Kerkira has signed in September lots of experienced players but they haven't convinced anyone yet that they can be in the next year's top league. PAOK (the archrival of Aris in Thessaloniki) is a team with great expectations but with a very bad coach (Austrian Fringer). They have the best greek attacker in the greek league (Salpigidis) but he is all alone. In January they signed Polish striker Miechel wich can be of major help but he is not ready to play yet. This match can go either ways. A possible draw

    AEK Athens v Egaleo

I wouldn't bet on this one. AEK is high on the table but were extremely lucky in half of their games played so far. AEK has serious injury problems in the front line. On the other hand Aigaleo is tough working team and very difficult to be beaten. The best pick is under 2.5 (@1.65 Gamebookers) but only for a small stake

    past meetings: -
    11-01-2004 AEK Athens vs. Aigaleo 2 - 2
    26-01-2003 AEK Athens vs. Aigaleo 3 - 2
    30-09-2001 AEK Athens vs. Aigaleo 4 - 0

    Ionikos v Panathinaikos

Ionikos is a small team with a low budget. They seem to have good relationships with Olympiakos (the archrival of Panathinaikos). Whenever they face Panathinaikos they play like mad dogs wanting to make a present to their friendly club. However Panathinaiko is in good form. They play nice football and they have their way of winning these kind of games. I don't see how Ioniko's defenders can stop PAO's attackers. Go for an away win

    past meetings:
    08-02-2004 Ionikos vs. Panathinaikos 1 - 2
    22-09-2002 Ionikos vs. Panathinaikos 0 - 1

    Kallithea v Olympiacos
This is a similar game to the previous one but with one small difference. Olympiacos is in bad form. Their strikers cannot find the net and Rivaldo is already in "vacations". Normally it will end up in an away win but i won't bet on that

    Iraklis v Ergotelis
Iraklis is a team that doesn't deserve to be in 12th position. They are actually good. They proved that on wednesday's cup game vs Olympiacos that ended with a victory of 1-0 after an excellent performance. Ergotelis is a weak team that will fight till the end to avoid relegation. They have only a couple of quality players such as striker Ogunsoto and are expected to play defensively with counterattacks. I think that they will not last for long though. Sooner or later Iraklis will score a goal and then everything will be rather easy for them. To me that is the best pick of the day. The only thing that scares me is that Irakli's players admitted their tireness after two very difficult games in the past week both played vs Olympiacos (1 win, 1 loss with the same score 1-0)
