March Madness Bilanz: 8-3 [[bussi]]

Schade, sehr knappes Ding!

George Mason #11 (25-7) vs. Wichita State #7 (26-8)

Pick: Over 124 (1,95 @ Pinnacle) 5/10

Florida (+1,5) – Villanova @ 1,90 Betsafe, Unibet [[yo]]

[[yo]]
to be continued....

Final Four , Sat April 1 [[winkewinke]]

No. 4 LSU (27-8, 14-2 Southeastern) vs. No. 2 UCLA (31-6, 14-4 Pac 10)

With its 16th appearance in the Final Four when UCLA meet Louisiana State in the national semifinals of the NCAA Tournament, they will tie North Carolina´s record. It shows the great tradition behind this college team, which had his best times in the 60´s and 70´s, winning 10 national championships in 12 years.
UCLA was considered a better team that LSU entering this tournament and that reality hasn’t changed just because LSU’s wins over Duke and Texas were deemed more impressive than UCLA’s wins last week over Gonzaga and Memphis. LSU has actually only played at a level that is 1 point better than UCLA in this tournament, so judging these teams on recent performance still wouldn’t justify the Tigers being favored by 2 points. The bookies opened this game at pick, but favoured later LSU by two points. LSU has been successful in this tournament by dominating in the paint with Glen Davis and Tyrus Thomas, but UCLA’s interior defense is among the best in the nation with a plentiful rotation of big men that are agile and long. The Bruins faced 2nd Team All-American Leon Powe from Cal 3 times this season and Powe, who averaged 20.5 points, 10.1 rebounds and shot 50% for the season, averaged only 14.0 points on 36% shooting with just 7.7 boards per game against UCLA’s defense, which he said was the best he’s faced. Teams that give the Bruins trouble are teams with a good post game and good outside shooters that can take advantage of the double-teams. Five of the Bruins six losses came against teams with multiple 3-point marksmen (Memphis, Cal, West Virginia, and twice to Washington) and the Tigers only have one player on the roster that shoots more than 30% from 3-point range (Darrel Mitchell). UCLA has one of the best perimeter defenders in the nation in Arron Afflalo and what coach Ben Howland has to do is have Afflalo (or Farmar, who is also a good defender) guard Mitchell while the big men double in the post. LSU is simply not good enough offensively from the perimeter to do much damage against the Bruins’ stifling defense and I expect Davis and Thomas to be held in check in this game. LSU is also a good defensive team and UCLA certainly can have their struggles offensively, but the Bruins are better than LSU on a points per possession basis on both offense and defense and they should be favored in this game. UCLA has won all seven previous meetings against LSU, including a 92-72 victory in their most recent matchup December 17, 1994. In addition to the line value and favorable match-up, LSU applies to a negative 3-22-1 ATS NCAA Tournament situation, that is based on last weekend’s 2 upset wins. It´s clear for me to take UCLA.

Pick: Florida -6 @ 1,99 Pinnacle [[yo]]

No. 11 George Mason (27-7, 15-3 Colonial Athletic) – No. 3 Florida (31-6, 10-6 Southeastern)

Since a three game losing streak back in February, Florida’s Billy Donavan has shown that he knows how to successfully adjust to the strengths of his opponents. The Gators have not lost a game since then and have covered the number in six of those nine games by allowing those opponents to shoot just 26.5% from behind the three point arc.
The Gators allowed Georgetown to slow the game down and then virtually shut out their outside shooting game in allowing just 5 for 21 three point shooting. Against Nova, Florida bodied up on their guard driven penetration game and held the Wildcats to less than 25% shooting.
Florida is playing their best ball at the right time and has won their tournament games by an average of over 16 points getting the cover in all four. I have Florida dominating every statistical category in this match-up except turnovers and maybe defense. This George Mason team has a lot to be proud of having made it to the Final Four but Cinderella breaks the heel on her glass slipper this evening and goes home alone.
