Orlando said goodbye to Steve Francis this week as they finally realized that they could not win with him handling the ball and they felt that he was hampering Dwight Howard’s development by his refusal to get the ball to him on the inside. As a Rockets fan, that story sounds all too familiar. When Frances was in Houston, he did the same thing with Yao Ming and eventually was shown the door in exchange for TMac.
However, Francis was the leading scorer on this team and it is not immediately apparent who the Magic management expects to pick up the slack. Neither Darco Milicic or Carlos Arroyo are the answer and Jameer Nelson is out with an injured right foot. On Wednesday, Grant Hill and Hedo Turkoglu were on the sidelines in street clothes so not a lot can be expected out of either of these guys if they even play tonight. On Wednesday night, the Magic dropped their eighth consecutive game, and their 11th of the last 12 as they fell to New Jersey by a score of 96-93. While Orlando actually shot the ball pretty well (52.9% FG), they lost the game at the charity stripe by making only 19 of 31 attempts.
Sonics have played lately as in their last 10 games they have only beaten Atlanta albeit, twice. Before Wednesday’s game at Atlanta, Ray Allen asked Seattle coach Bob Hill to play him all 48 minutes and he then went out and scored 33 points. Before the game, it was uncertain whether or not Rashard Lewis would even be able to play but he ended up scoring 25 points and pulled down 10 rebounds against the Hawks. Topping of the scoring by that duo was Chris Wilcox who came off the bench to contribute another 17 points on 8 for 10 shooting.
Seattle is somewhat refreshed after the recent whirlwind trades and while I believe that Orlando will be much better off without Francis in the long run, they are currently a disorganized team with no leader to take the team on his back. Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis will shred these guys tonight.
