Cobh make tough work of Cats

Cobh Ramblers moved to within five points of the top three in the First Division of the eircom League on Saturday night as they secured a 3-2 win over Kilkenny City at Buckley Park.

Kilkenny, struggling so often this season, made a fight of it but fell to an injury time winner from CObh's Darren Murphy.

Gareth Cambridge put Cobh ahead after just nine minutes. Graham Cummins had been instrumental in setting up the first goal and he got the second on 57 minutes, punishing a defensive error from Kilkenny.

Conor Buckley headed in from a corner just one minute later to give the home side some hope. Gary Deegan fired Kilkenny level with just over ten minutes remaining and it looked as though the Cats were going to pick up a rare point.

More weak defending though cost them and Murphy nipped in to make it 3-2 just after the 90th minute.

Last-gasp Murphy seals Cobh win

Kilkenny City 2-3 Cobh Ramblers
Darren Murphy fired a last-minute winner to hand Cobh Ramblers all three points against bottom-placed Kilkenny City after a dramatic eircom League First Division encounter at Buckley Park on Saturday night.

Cobh had looked well on course for all three points after opening up a two-goal lead before the hour mark.

But the Cats showed great spirit to fight back and level, and they will be devastated by the manner of their defeat at the death.

Gareth McCambridge fired Ramblers in front after nine minutes and Graham Cummins extended their lead 12 minutes into the second half.

However, Kilkenny kickstarted their revival within 60 seconds when Conor Buckley headed to the net, and Gary Deegan equalised 10 minutes from the end.

But Murphy struck deep into injury time to end the Cats’ comeback and take all three points back to the south coast for Cobh.
