    nur mal so nebenbei

Rumors suggest that the Intertoto Cup first round match between Georgian football club Dila Gori and Bulgarian Marek Dupnitza was not played out in the sporting manner it should be.

Dila lost the match in Tbilisi 0-2 after drawing 0-0 in Bulgaria. Indeed it was slightly surprising that Dila was able to hold Marek 0-0 in Bulgaria. Dila is a very average Georgian side which was expected to loose in Dupnitza.

Dila played without any enthusiasm in the return match in Tbilisi. It was played at walking pace with no strong attacking at all. Particularly Georgi Balashvili, Zaza Latsabidze and Hristofer Shatikashvili who played some way below their normal game. Indeed it is thought that Dila played to loose this match and received a sum of money from Marek for doing so. Georgi Balashvili was kicked out of Lokomotivi Tbilisi in similar circumstances. Balashvili, Gogichasihvili and other players put bets on that Lokomotivi would loose their UEFA Cup tie with FC Copenhagen. Which they did 4-1. The Lokomotivi president at the time Akaki Chkhaidze sacked the players involved. But it is not only people from Georgia who believe this. A journalist from the site www.bulgarian-football.com also agreed this was more than possible.

Indeed the President of Marek was wanting a "big game" so he could get tv money etc. Marek will face Belgian side Genk who are much biggar than Dila but the real plum draw lies in the next round where the winners face Borussia Dortmund. Both sides agreed to this as it was benefitting them. Marek wanted through to the next round to play a big game and Dila wanted the money. Also it is likely that Dila did not have the money to go to Belgium to play Genk in the first place. By the time they bought flights, hotels and training complex all the money from winning the first round would be gone.

Also it is interesting to note that not one betting office in Georgia received bets on the game. The reason the first match was drawn 0-0 was because they wanted to rise the betting for Marek's away win in Georgia. The large bets on the match were probably done in countries such as Greece. Also there was a lot of interest in this match. Much more than usual for an Intertoto match. Indeed people were posting scores on georgiansoccer.com forum even before the match started. Saying that Marek was winning 0-1 then 0-2 etc. Others were posting different scores and most people believed this for two reasons. First was that the livescore websites such as livescore.com and soccerstand.com were reporting the same. Presumably from the same people who were posting the scores on the forum. Also people were saying that they had friends at the stadium who were telling them when anything happened. Only problem was that they were an hour out. The clocks had went back an hour that week in Georgia so while they were posting all these scores etc the match had not even kicked off.

After the match the manager of Dila Gori Zurab Khorguashvili reacted angrily to suggestions of match fixing. "My team played fairly, we did not gamble on the match or use totlaizator, we played what we can. We will leave you to make up your own mind!!
